The Nintendo Wii has been the leading game console throughout 2008, outselling both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. Now the Wii is expected to remain the leading console in 2009. One of the factors that contributes to this is the price. The Wii is less expensive at around $250, while the Xbox 360 costs around $300, and the Playstation 3 at $399 for a 80 gigabyte hard drive or $499 for a 160 gigabyte hard drive. The price ranges make the Wii a reasonable product to buy than the other two, especially with the fact of having to buy controllers and games for each system.
It has been said that although the Wii is the leading game console, the Xbox 360 sells more games. This might seem like a bad thing for the Wii, but is not really as bad as you think if you look at it this way. The Xbox 360 has been out for over a year longer than the Wii, so they have more games available. With the money problems that many people are now having, the Wii looks more affordable. A video game costs around $40 each. After buying a few, the amount you pay is around or above what you already paid for the system. For the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3, you have to constantly buy new games in order to remain entertained, causing you to spend hundred in games that you may never play again after you buy the new ones. With the Wii, you do not need to buy many games in order to remain entertained. This, therefore, is saving you hundreds of dollars, that you can buy other thing with instead of more games.
Even though many people do not buy a lot of games for the Wii, the system has some of the most popular video games around. Their most popular game is "Wii Sports". This game comes free with the Wii when you buy it. The game includes different sports such as, tennis, baseball, boxing, golf, and the most popular bowling. It is not one of the most popular games around just because it comes free with the Wii. It is because of the physical activity involved in playing the game. In order to actually play the game, a person has to stand up and do different motions identical to what the screen is showing.
Another popular game for the Wii is "Wii Fit". This consists of doing many different physical exercises. These exercise are broken down into four different categories: yoga, strength training, aerobics, and balance games. Players use the "Wii Balance Board" to measure their height and weight. The game calculates what you can do according to age and keeps record of what you have already done. Many people use this to help them use lose weight and stay fit and activity while in the convenience of their own home. They will also be having a lot of fun in the process.
One physical game that all of the systems do have in common is Dance Dance Revolution. These games started with the original Playstation and are now available on the Xbox 360 and the Wii. This game requires a dance mat with arrows on it. When an arrow comes on the screen the player must step on the same arrow with their feet. Some of the songs are slow and some are fast. If a person plays around three fast songs in a row, they will more than likely be extremely tired and become very hot. This game is more meant for children in their teens than older people with all of the jumping around involved in the game. The physical games for the Wii, excluding Dance Dance Revolution, are very physical, but do not involve vigorous activity and can be played by people of all ages. I have learned this from personal experience where I have gotten so tired from playing Dance Dance Revolution on the Playstation 3 that I became so tired, I started to have a tougher time breathing. When I was playing the Wii, I did not get tired at all and was actually enjoying doing physical exercise. I would recommend the Wii games as better than the physical games for both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.
This game system is great for people of all ages. For the Xbox 360 the age range is around 30 years old with only a few games for younger children. The Playstation 3 is more for people in their mid thirties and older. It also has only a few games for younger children. The Wii has games that are appropriate for people of all ages and these games can be played together as a family. For example, my uncle has always had a few different game systems. When the three new systems came out, usually he would first buy the Playstation 3 because that is his favorite game system, but instead bought the Wii. This was because he has two younger daughters who are 5 and 4 years old. Both of them are able to play games on the Wii, because the system is meant to be played by people of all ages. My uncle even enjoyed the Wii so much that it took him two years to buy the Playstation 3 because he enjoyed playing together with his family. The Wii can also be played by older people too. Many nursing homes now have the Wii for the seniors to get some exercise. The game that they use is "Wii Sports". In the game, they use the bowling feature. To play the person must stand up, swing their arm back, and then forward again just like as if they were really bowling. This has become so popular among the seniors that they have bowling tournaments with it.
The Wii has more people buying it over both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 because of its new technology. The controls for the Wii are more advanced than for the other two systems. Normally for controls, a person just has to press different buttons in order for something to happen on the screen. For the Wii, a person still has to press a few buttons, but mostly what a person has to do is simply move the controller, causing them to have to move their body. The object on the screen moves in the same direction as the controller. This new technology and the fact that they have to move around are the main reasons why many people are more attracted to buy the Wii over both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.
Even though the Wii has many advantages over both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3, it still does have its disadvantages. The Wii is different than the other systems, so the older systems might make a difference. If a person really liked the Playstation 2, they might be more happy buying the Playstation 3 over the Wii. The same is said for a person who liked the Xbox and buys the Xbox 360. This has happened with my dad. He has bought every single version of the Playstation that has ever been out. He bought the Playstation 3 because of this and the fact that he could play his previous Playstation games on it. This is also why some people buy the other systems before the Wii, to play their previous games on the newer system. The only past games the Wii can play are Nintendo Gamecube games, nothing else. The quality of the Wii games is far less than those of the Playstation 3. Because Blu-ray discs were originally made for just the Playstation 3, they made most of their games close to high definition quality. However, this does not matter to many people, because they still want to buy the Wii over it.
The Wii has been the leading console for a few years over both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. The Wii is more appealing to people in that it is cheaper than the other systems, keeps people entertained with only having to buy only a few games, and is a great source of exercise for people of all ages. The Wii takes up less space than the other two systems, and can attract any person, causing them to buy it along with one of the other two systems. Even though if does have its disadvantages, for example, its games do not have the best quality, and the only past games it can play are from the Nintendo Gamecube, many people overlook its flaws and simply enjoy owning the Nintendo Wii.
