Dual
Voltage Dual LED 12v/off/7v Baybus
Thanks to
Cliff, most of the industry
is familiar or have at least heard of the terms "Fanbus" and "Baybus". If not,
then obviously you haven't been around the community very long. In short, a
Fanbus is a hub in which to connect your fans. The Fanbus then either plugs
into a female Molex connector from the power supply, or corresponds with Baybus.
The Baybus is a control center for your fans. Depending on the setup, the fans
can be controlled different ways: on/off, dual voltage, or use resistance to
control the speed using rheostats or potentiometers. There are many other ways,
but those are the most common. LEDs can be added, fancy switches, LCD’s, etc...these
can get really hi-tech. Note: Those cool as hell case badges can be had at
Overclockers Badges.
Today, I
am going to show you how to make a 12v/off/7v Baybus. Meaning when the switch
is centered, or neutral, there will be no current going to the fans. When the
switch is flipped up, 12v are given to the fans, so they operate at full speed.
When flipped down, 7v is given to the fan, allowing it to operate at roughly
half speed. I will tell you now that this is NOT an easy Baybus to make, BUT
if the proper time is taken and you are careful, you should have no problems.
I do, however, recommend checking out Cliff's
Guide and my bud's at Virtual
Hideout.

Some of
the tools are not needed, but REALLY make the project look better, and make
the assembly a bit easier. I recommend clearing an area to work, such as a workbench,
or large table. Before we start in on this, I would like to stress how important
measurement is when doing anything modification wise, and the same holds true
to this project. Take careful measures while drilling holes in the faceplate,
because once the holes are misaligned, there’s not much you can do.
