Frequently Made Errors
The following is a list of known problems or bugs on our web site and services. We are working diligently to solve these problems. Some of them are beyond our control and are a result of the limitations of the software we use. Please let us know by e-mail if you have come across any website-related problems. We are constantly improving our web site.
Shipping Charge Calculated Wrong: After a trial period, our shipping calculator is now correct and accurate for most orders and most addresses. Occasionally due to UPS website downtime, the calculated shipping cost is too low, but we let it go most of the time. However, it is known that our system does not calculate the shipping cost correctly under the following situations, for which manual adjustment is needed. We shall contact the customer by phone and/or e-mail if we determine that shipping adjustment is necessary.
Heavy items with large quantity. The UPS site allows calculation of shipping costs for packages with a maximum total weight of 100LB. If one orders large quantities of a heavy item, it will make the total weight go over 100LB, but the calculation is still based on 100LB. That often results in a shipping charge too low.
International Shipping. The UPS site does not calculate the shipping cost for international shipping accurately. A very high percentage of the international orders need manual adjustment in shipping cost. Most international addresses require air shipping.
Postal Office/FedEx. Our site does not always do shipping calculation accurately for these two shipping methods. Manual adjustment is sometimes needed, especially for heavy and large items such as monitors and cases.
Duplicated Orders: On the Order Confirmation page, after you place your order, there is a black "CONTINUE" button. Please click that button. Do not use the BACK function of your browser on that page. That would make you go back to the same order page you just entered and send us a duplicate order by accident. We will contact customers to verify the orders whenever we see identical orders.
No Online Stock Listing: We realize that it is critical to show our current inventory in real time on our web site. We are working with Yahoo! to add this important feature in the next generation of this e-commerce software.
Login Session Canceled Incidentally: On the Register/Login page, please use your mouse to click the "OK" button on the right side, instead of using your "Enter" key to enter your ID and password. Since by default the cursor moves to the "Cancel" button after you "Tab" from the password window, your registration may be accidentally canceled after you hit "Enter."
No Online Tracking for Postal Service and FedEx Shipping Methods on Our Website: Currently, we do not offer online tracking at our web site for FedEx or US Postal Services using our order number. FedEx does offer online tracking on their website. We now send FedEx tracking numbers to our customers through e-mail. The link to FedEx tracking page is provided on our web site at several locations. Currently, US Postal Service offers online tracking only for US Priority Mail. We plan to provide online tracking for these shipping methods soon.
Shipping E-mail Confirmation by UPS Not Sent: Currently, we have to type in your e-mail address manually in our shipping department. That process can lead to wrong e-mail addresses entered, which causes the e-mail confirmation from UPS not to reach you. We are working with UPS to automate this process to avoid this problem.
Occasional Slow Connections to Our Secure Server: Success could cause a problem, too. The Yahoo! secure server is where shopping baskets reside and where orders are processed. Obviously, it could be very busy if many people are accessing it at the same time. We have experienced occasional slow-down in the ordering process, probably once to a couple of times a month. Sometimes it lasts only a few hours and sometimes it may last up to one full day. We are working with Yahoo! to solve this problem by upgrading their hardware. Yes, upgrading their hardware!
This problem has been affecting only the secure order pages such as shopping basket and ordering pages. It should not affect your browsing speed.
Duplicate Confirmation E-mails: Our e-mail server sometimes (a few times per year as observed in the past) pulls duplicate order e-mails. As a result our server sends as a reply duplicate confirmation or follow-up e-mails as attachments. This problem can be quickly fixed once discovered. We are working on upgrading our e-mail server so that auto-replies are sent as plain e-mails instead of attachments.
Update: We noticed that the occurrence of this problem has gone down significantly. 10/27/99.
Frequently Made Errors
Known Bugs on Our Web Site
The following is a list of frequently made errors. We list them here to help you avoid them. We are trying to improve our site to make it harder to happen.
The Billing and Shipping addresses are reversed. There are two order pages. The first one is for shipping address. Always enter the shipping information first.
Wrong shipping methods requested for Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and international addresses. Only UPS Second Air, FedEx 2Day, and USPS Priority Mail deliver to these addresses. If the wrong shipping method was chosen, we will have to contact customers to inform the change in shipping method, which may delay the order.
Wrong shipping methods requested for APO/FPO addresses. Only US Postal Services ship to APO/FPO addresses. If the wrong shipping method was chosen, we will have to contact customers to inform the change in shipping method, which may delay the order.
UPS 2nd Day Air or Next Day Air shipping methods are chosen for addresses within one day distance for UPS Ground. Although not guaranteed by UPS, UPS Ground delivers to most of Texas and some portions of Louisiana in one day. You may choose the UPS Ground shipping method to save some money.
UPS 2nd Day Air or Next Day Air shipping methods are chosen with Prepay payment method. Well, this is really not an error; However, if you are in a hurry to get your products shipped to you, you may not want to choose the Prepay or Purchase Order payment methods. We'll have to wait for your payment check or PO to show up and clear before shipping, which may be a few days after you place your order.
The billing address and zip code do not match those on your credit card record. If the address or zip code does not match your record from your credit card company, we will contact you to verify the information, which may delay your order.
Wrong e-mail address entered. Please double check your e-mail address entry. If there is an error, you won't receive your e-mail confirmation for your order or shipment.
Wrong Info Entered When Trying Online Tracking: Enter only the numeric order number. Delete the words "Enter your order number." You must have the exact order number entered for the tracking system to work.
CPU and motherboards ordered do not match. PIII goes with Slot 1 motherboards, Celeron PPGA with Socket 370, and AMD with Super Socket 7. Even more confused? Please visit the How to Choose a Motherboard section for more information.
Assuming 2% Discount for Repeated Customer is Automatic: It's not. Customer must add this item online to claim it, unless there is a problem on our server.
