Change: Downloaded Drivers from 3coms website
Cause: The Drivers did not extract properly. The drivers that are availble on the 3com website are compressed using a sixteen bit compression utility in order to assure backward compatibility with legacy files systems.
Fix: Follow Driver Download Instructions from http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/dl_inst.htm
To download and extract the driver files:
1. Create a folder/directory right off the root of your hard drive (such as C:\3COM) Note: If the file is embedded several directories deep from the root, or stored in a directory with a Microsoft Windows 95 long filename, it may not extract completely. A DOS "Write error" may also occur.
2. Click on the desired driver file (i.e. 3c90x2x.exe) to download, and specify the directory location (C:\3COM).
3. After copying the file to the folder/directory, execute the extraction:
a. In Windows, double click the file
b. In DOS, type: 3c90x2x (and then press the Enter key)
4. A DOS window should appear with a License Agreement. Type: y to accept.
5. After the extraction is finished, go back into the directory
6. The files and folders should now be visible
Fix: To transfer the files/folders to a floppy disk:
1.Open the folder/directory
2.Select all the files and folders except for the executable file itself (3c90x2x.exe) and copy to the floppy disk

FIX: Resolve cable issues for a 10/100 Mb PC Card or CardBus PC Card:
1. Make sure cable is plugged into the network and your PC Card is plugged into your laptop. Your LED light should be green. PC Card cable should have two lights - one marked 10, the other marked 100.
2. Try another 3Com dongle, try another category 5 cable from the hub to the PC Card
3. Check your cables from the hub and make sure they have the proper pinouts
5. The hub light should be on
6. If the light is not on, try another port, the port on the hub may be bad.
a. Try plugging directly into the HUB with the cable shipped with the card - use this cable and connect from the hub to the 3Com dongle. This means moving the laptop to the where the HUB resides. If you can see the network now the first cable is BAD.
7. 10/100 does not support coax
8. Insert another 3Com 10/100mb or Cardbus PC Card, does it work?
9. If you do not have another 3Com 10/100mb or Cardbus PC Card available, try it in another notebook. If it works in another notebook, you know its a configuration issue with the notebook. Try BIOS upgrades, or files for downloading from manufacturing site or refer to laptop manufacturer. If it does not work in another notebook, you may need to contact 3Com Technical Support, run 3Com Diagnostics
10. Close all programs and logon as a different user
Fix: Run 3Com's Diagnostic Program (config.exe) from diskette 2 of the latest EtherDisk set
1. Make sure you have booted the computer under DOS version 3.1 or later, and that your computer is connected to the network.
2. Insert the EtherDisk diskette 2 in the floppy disk drive
3. Make drive A the active drive by typing a: [Enter]
4. Run the Install Program. Type: config [Enter]
NOTE: If a message is displayed the no 3Com adapter is detected, you may need to have a third party card and socket services installed to initiate your pcmcia controller
5. Move the cursor down to highlight Configuration and Diagnostic Program, press [Enter]
6. Highlight Displaying current configuration information, press [Enter]
7. Check the settings make sure settings are assigned.
8. If the int is unusually high, 69 or 72, etc. Choose Configuring the Lan + Modem card and auto configure the card
9. Click on the Start Test Button and verify your card passes all tests
