What driver do I need for my CD-ROM drive?
All of our drives are shipped with drivers enclosed. The driver can also be downloaded from LITE-ON Web site. However, this driver is for DOS operation ONLY. To operate CD-ROM drive in MS-Windows environment, or any other OS, please use the default CD-ROM support utility provided by OS.
Why is my CD-ROM drive so noisy?
All devices that have mechanical devices that moves, rotates, or spins generate noise. A CD-ROM drive has all of the above devices, so there are certain noises that is normal when the tray ejects/closes, when disc is spinning up to the designed maximum speed. However, noises such as scratching, impacts or loose parts rattling are abnormal. LITE-ON CD-ROM drives have the following unique sounds that should NOT be mistaken as abnormal :
1.Tray in / out noise level : LITE-ON designed our tray mechanism to use gears instead of the usual belt-driven design to avoid some common problems such loose belt, broken belt or slippery belt. But it did create a little more noise than the belt-driven units
2.Swishing noise when drive starts to spin : LITE-ON designed our high speed CD-ROM with ABS ( Auto-Balancing System ) that uses tiny steel balls in enclosed ring to minimize vibration during operations. So, between the time the disc starts to spin, and the time it achieve prefect balance, the balls are moving about seeking the ideal location
3.Swishing noises during operations : Due the ABS system, the balls have to reposition themselves once the spinning speed is changed. Such changes in spinning speeds are usually caused by difficulty in reading datas of disc that are scratched or have dirty spots
4.Loose part noise when moving our drive : Again, using the ABS system, the ball bearing are allowed to move around in their ring shaped encasings with little or no friction to ensure the proper placement. However, this means they are free to move when shook, tilted, or any movement that changes the plane of the drive in any direction
Why my drive can NOT read some of my disc?
If this is a new disc, please verify it is recorded or stamped in a format that is supported by your CD-ROM drive. Sometimes, the quality of recording / stamping could impair the readability of the disc also. As always, check your disc for scratches and dirty spots, especially check for greasy fingerprints and circular scratches, wipe it with silk & tryagain.

Why does disc break in 48x / 52x CD-ROM drives?
Disc break during use is a new symptom surfacing recently, it is most likely due to poor quality of the disc. All LITE-ON CD-ROM drive are designed with ABS system that reduces vibration to minimize such risks. However, CD disc sometime have hidden flaws such as :
1.Defective material;
2.Defective due improper manufacturing process;
3.Invisible hairline cracks at the edges.
To avoid disc breaking in operation, it is recommended to always use legitimate copies of CD titles and good quality discs ( However, we have seen CDs distributed by software company came with defects due to poor QA process too ). Also, please DO NOT place labels or any other foreign objects on the disc to avoid excessive vibration during operation.
When I play my VCD titles, why is the screen freeze or seeing a lot mosaic on screen?
When the readability of a disc is causing the transfer rate to drop below the minimum requirement of the media playback application, the application will freeze screen till normal operation can be restored. The mosaic is caused also cause by poor readability of disc, which send incomplete or error data to media playback utility.
