I have an Acer P90 with a Socket 7 motherboard. Can I upgrade it to a Socket 7 233MMX? Is that as fast as I can go before replacing the motherboard? What changes do I have to make to the motherboard settings before installing it?
Most likely, you would not be able to run a 233MMX CPU on an old P90 motherboard. The reason is that the MMX technology requires dual voltage on the motherboard and most Pentium-level motherboards were not equipped with that. Someone might tell you that yes you can, but you are going to shorten the lifetime of your MMX CPU significantly if you don’t run it with dual voltage. You may be able to upgrade your system to Pentium 166 or 200 Classic, if you can find such a CPU in the used market.
You need to consult your motherboard manual to change the jumper settings and BIOS on your motherboard. There is no one universal way of doing that, yet.
Does your SoundBlaster Live Value come with any software even though it is OEM?
It comes with a manual and driver CD.
Does the OEM version include all the same drivers if necessary? If it was the Voodoo3 3000 OEM, would it include the software that comes in the retail box? For the Live Value sound card as well? Do the OEM products come with the same warranty as the retail-box products? Also, can you buy the Windows 98 operating system separately from your Think-box systems?
All OEM products come with the same driver sets as their re-tail boxed ones. However, the OEM products most often do not come with application software titles that are sometimes bundled with the retail boxed version. Most OEM products carry the same manufacturer warranty as the retail boxed counterpart. A major exception is CPU. Yes, you can purchase Windows 98 operating system separately provided that you are answering Yes to at least one of the two questions listed on the order page for this item.
An order was received for Microsoft Intellimouse or Natural keyboard, but answers to the option questions were all "no."
Unfortunately, you must answer yes to at least one of the following two questions to qualify to purchase this item: (1) For resale? (2) W/ new PC hardware? You can e-mail us to change your answer. Unless we hear from you, this order will be cancelled
Re: 128Mb PC100 DIMM module. Can you tell me the name of the manufacturer of this module and I'd like to get some more information before making a purchase. Thanks.
The memory modules we sell are non-proprietary, OEM products with name-brand chipsets such as Micron (MT), TI, Toshiba, and Goldstar (LGS). You can think of them as Directron brand, similar to names such as Kingston and PNY, but with much lower prices. We have so much confidence in the quality of our memory modules that we offer them in life-time warranty.
I am interested in buying your memory to do an upgrade, but could you tell me whether it would work in my Dell computer?
Unfortunately, we can't promise whether our memory modules would work in a specific computer. There are just too many brands and models of computers out there. We offer two suggestions. One, consult your computer manual or visit your vendor's web site to determine if the memory modules required is proprietary or not. Second, you are welcome to buy one and give it a try. If it does not work you can return the memory for a full refund (excluding shipping) in 7 days. We believe that our memory modules should have a 90+% chance to work in a Dell system. Compaq and IBM could be a different story.
This question illustrates the beauty of an open-structure, non-proprietary system. You can virtually buy any parts, any where for when upgrade time comes. You may wonder why the major PC manufacturers like to use proprietary parts?
I'm just curious if you can connect this hard drive rack/case using a laptop notebook. Right now I'm planning to buy another hard drive and I just want to know if this is compatible if you use it in a notebook computer.
No, this removable/mobile hard drive case was designed for desktop computers with an open 5.25" slot. It allows you an easy way to remove the hard drive from your system. The case will not work on a notebook computer since notebooks do not come with the 5.25?bays.
Thanks for the immediate response. I really appreciate it. I have a notebook computer with a 4GB hard drive and I'm planning to add an additional hard drive (external) because I want to install a Solaris Unix on it. Do you have any suggestion on which brand to use. And do you think it is possible to connect an ordinary external hard drive on my notebook? I hope you can help me with this.
Unfortunately, we do not carry such external hard drives.
Dear Directron, I am in need of a modem. I am using your M598 motherboard, 64MB RAM, and Win 98. I tried a Zoom PCI modem from a local retailer, but it wasn't compatible. What modem do you offer/recommend for my system?
We are surprised that the Zoom modem didn’t work out in such a configuration. Most time we come across compatibility problems with modems only with the so-called Win-modem designed for Windows 95/98 and Intel CPUs. The Win-modems use the CPU and software to process the data transmission. In your situation, we would suggest you to try an ISA non-Win-modem, such as AOpen FM56-ITU/2.
I'm looking to purchase either the Toshiba DVD 3rd Generation drive or the Sony DVD Drive DDU220E. I understand that each of these products are OEM, but does that mean that the software is not included as well?
DVD drives do not come with manual or driver diskette. Only the decoders do. Since these items are sold as bare drives, no software comes with them. Either software or hardware decoders much be purchased separately.
One other question. I have a video card that allows me to connect to my TV already. Do I need any additional software or hardware to run DVD's using these drives?
You do need a decoder to run a DVD, either software or hardware. Most likely you can use the same video card.
What does STB mean?
STB is a video card manufacturer, similar to Diamond, Matrox, and ATI.
Does the ASUS SS7 P5A motherboard have PS/2 slots and if so how many?
The P5A is an ATX form-factor motherboard. ATX form-factors all come with two PS/2 socket, one for keyboard and one for mouse.
I'm looking for the refresh rates (any other specs would be appreciated) for the following monitors: Magitronic 17" 0.27.
Thanks for the question. We have since updated the description of this monitor to include the refresh rate specifications.
Does the "DTK OEM" power supply fan that came with my mid-tower, Enlight 7230 series case blow outside air into the case or does it blow air within my case to the exterior?
By standard design, the ATX power supply should suck air from outside the case into the power supply and blow the air onto the microprocessor. You should have your case fan, typically mounted in the front of the case, do exactly the opposite - suck hot air out of your case.
