By Samsung January 19, 2003 Samsung Information Systems America's Storage System Division announces the SpinPoint V20400 Series of hard disk drives, the newest member of its 5400-RPM SpinPoint Family. Featuring 20.4GB per disk technology, Samsung continues to provide cutting edge hard disk drive areal densities to the industry. Leveraging the technology from the 15GB/Disk SpinPoint V15300 Series, which is currently in mass production, the new V20400 Series offers capacity points of 10.2GB, 20.4GB, 30.6GB and 40.8GB. The V20400 Series continues to offer the enhanced shock protection and best-in-the-class acoustics by employing Samsung's proprietary technologies: ImpacGuard°À_, SSB°À_ (Shock Skin Bumper), and NoiseGuard°À_. The V20400 Series also provides industry leading desktop performance with 5400RPM, 9ms seek, a 512KB cache buffer, and the new high performance Ultra ATA/100 interface. Evaluation units of the V20400 Series have begun shipping with volume availability in July. Initial shipments support UDMA/66 with Ultra ATA/100 availability in August. "The V20400 Series continues our commitment in providing time to market, cost effective storage solutions to the entry level and mainstream desktop markets," said Dr. Noh- Byung Park, General Manager of Samsung's Storage Division. "The V20400 Series provides leading edge capacity extensions to our popular V10200 and V15300 Series along with delivering the desired performance of 5400 RPM for our cost sensitive desktop customers." The SpinPoint V20400 Series features GMR head technology with wireless suspension design. Samsung's NoiseGuard°À_ technology is designed to virtually eliminate the propagation of acoustic noise from the drive. It allows the SpinPoint V20400 Series to provide industry leading acoustics both at idle and during operation. Samsung supports the SpinPoint V20400 Series with a three-year warranty that includes toll-free technical support 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Deskstar 180GXP Awarded "Perfect 10" by Maximum PC Magazine By Hitachi January 17, 2003 The IBM Deskstar 180GXP recently bested the competition to receive Maximum PC's coveted "Kick Ass" Award with top benchmark scores in nearly every category. The drive was cited for offering "the best of both the server and desktop worlds" among other similar components. The review also highlights the drive's high performance "Tag and Seek" technology.
