Step-1 Prepare the cooler:
To prepare your Cooler Master you need to make sure that the bottom of the cooler, where it will contact the CPU, is clean. You can clean it with a soft cloth and some rubbing alcohol if needed. You will notice a small square of thermal interface material (TIM) on the bottom of the cooler. The TIM will help the cooler to conduct heat away from the CPU core.
Step-2 Prepare the motherboard:
The key to preparing the motherboard is to make sure that you have it on a hard surface. It also needs to be in an area free of debris and very well lit. You also want to lay the cooler on the socket, without attaching it, to make sure it fits.
Step-3 Mount the Cooler Master:
Place the cooler on to the socket as shown in the picture. The hole in the cooler clip should slide easily onto the slug of the socket (small knots on the CPU socket). Hold the cooler flat on the CPU and fasten the other side of the clip onto the socket using a screwdriver to apply force to the clip. **Do not apply force to the cooler because you could damage the CPU core. Apply force to the metal clip only.
Step-4 Connecting the fan:
To connect power to the cooler fan you must attach the fan's power cord to the fan header on your motherboard. The fan header will be near the CPU socket, but in a different location on each motherboard. If you have trouble, please, consult your motherboard manual for the fan header location.
To avoid problems you should make a few simple checks before you turn the power on. Check to see if the cooler is mounted flat and is secure. Make sure that the cooler is not touching any other parts of the motherboard. Check to see if the fan is plugged in correctly.
Always be careful when you are working with computer components, as they are very sensitive. Work in an area that is clean because dirt can easily damage these components. You may want to wear some kind of static electricity wristband. Computer components can be easily damaged or destroyed by static electricity.
