Microsoft Software LicensingMicrosoft offers three volume licensing program options designed to meet a broad-based customer need.
1. Open Business:
Open Business is a simple, flexible licensing program that provides big savings for customers who purchase multiple copies of Microsoft software. You can begin saving with as few as five licenses and continue to enjoy the same cost-savings for two years. They can mix and match product to achieve their five-license goal.
Benefits: Easy to understand -- no counting or pool separation.
Easy to qualify -- large purchase not required to enjoy discount.
Easy to track and administer -- single authorization number for purchases.
Easy ongoing purchasing -- no reorder minimum, no restrictions on type of software purchases.
2. Open Volume:
Open Volume is designed for customers who purchase a high volume of Microsoft licenses. Open Volume requires a 500 point minimum buy-in.
Benefits: Opportunity for greater volume discount.
Better recognition for larger software purchases.
No reorder minimum for elected product pool.
3. Open Academic:
Open Academic provides savings for academic customers who purchase multiple copies of Academic Microsoft software. As in Open Business, academic customers will begin saving with as few as five licenses and continue to enjoy the same cost-savings for two years. They also can mix and match products to achieve their five-license goal.
Benefits: Easy to understand -- no counting or pool separation.
Easy to qualify -- large purchase not required to enjoy discount.
Easy to track and administer -- single authorization number for purchases.
Easy ongoing purchasing -- no reorder minimum, no restrictions on type of software purchases.
Notes:
(1) Accumulation: Open Business, Open Volume, and Open Academic licenses are perpetual. Cost savings begin with the initial order. The Open License v5.0 agreement provides a two-year window for reorders at the same discount level. An authorization number is issued at the time of purchase that indicates the buy-in level, product pool (for Open Volume) and expiration date of the agreement (reorder window). Reorders of Open Business are available with no minimums and are available for any product from the Open License product list. Reorders of Open Volume are available with no minimums for any product from the customers' elected pool.
(2) Upgrade Advantage:
Upgrade Advantage is upgrade protection through Open Business, Open Volume and Open Academic. Flexibility allows end users to enroll in Upgrade Advantage at any time. The Upgrade Advantage license will give your customers the right to upgrade to the most current version and permits customers to upgrade to any version of the product released during the term of the agreement. Your customers can purchase Upgrade Advantage separately or with their software license purchase and can acquire a copy of the software when the new version is released. They will not automatically receive the software upgrade from Microsoft.
(3) Pricing And Ordering:
Open License 5.0 (Open Business, Open Volume and Open Academic): Orders require the company or school name, address and full contact name. End users are eligible to install the software when Microsoft receives the order (average processing time is 24-28 hours). Each order must be validated to ensure correct product pools (Open Volume only). Quantity, pricing, authorization number and the end-user information are provided. The end user must obtain the software by purchasing a full-packaged product or using Open License fulfillment.
(4) Returns:
Microsoft will accept returns under the Open License 5.0 programs. Microsoft will process returns within 60 days of the issue date on the license for full credit. Returns pertain to one complete invoice. No partial returns are accepted. Returns MUST be requested prior to the 60th day from the date the license was issued. The request form and required letter must be faxed to (716) 565-8568 within the 60-day window.
