Reed Switch for Case Mods
Applications of reed switch for case mods: You can use this switch to turn on and off lights, fans, and other devices by the action of a swinging door (such as those on 1030 cases) or a sliding door (such as those on hydraulic cases). A mod article on this application will be published soon.
What's a Reed Switch?: This reed switch assembly contains ferromagnetic contact blades (reed-like), hermetically sealed in a glass envelope which is filled with an inert gas. The switch is actuated by an externally generated magnetic field, either from a coil or permanent magnet.
This switch is enclosed in plastic enclosures for the best positioning. It also comes pre-wired, so that you don't need to use a solder gun to do the wiring. It has both Normally Open (NO) and Normally Closed (NC) (normal = away from a magnet) positions so that you can choose to use either one of them. One magnet included. Individual plastic package. No instructions included.
Specs: Rated 0.5A maximum at 20V AC/DC. 10 Watts maximum. SPDT. Mounting hole: 0.136" (1.97") centers.

Instructions: These switches, a relatively new invention, have become the most popular device in burglar alarms to protect doors, windows, and similar openings. They consist of two parts, one case contains the actual switch and the other a magnet. This reed switch is a dual-purpose device which may be used with normally open or normally closed circuits. For use with a normally open circuit, connect the wires to terminals C and NC on the reed switch. When using switch with normally closed circuits, use terminals C and NO on the reed switch.
The switch has three connecting screws for the wires. The magnet has no terminals. As a rule, the switch part is installed on the stationary part (usually the frame) of the window or door and the magnet on the door or window itself.
Use the double-sided tape to mount the sensor and the magnet to desired positions. Two strips of tapes are included in this product.
Notes: (1) Proper installation is required to use this product. (2) Wires are not included in this product. (3) To deactivate the function of the reed switch, a toggle switch is suggested, which you can mount on the back of the case to hide it. (4) You don't have to use the magnet that comes with this package. Any strong magnet will work. The magnet comes in a casing, making it slightly bulky for some applications in a PC. (5) We highly suggest to use a reed switch together with
a pre-wired cable set, which makes it much easier to connect the switch to a power supply and the intended devices to be controlled.
