www.directron.com is one of the largest e-commerce companies based in Houston, Texas. With more than 70 employees and 12,000 items, Directron.com operates from a 100,000 sq. ft. warehouse. It sells computer parts, systems, laptops, and peripherals. This past week, Directron.com’s services were interrupted by Category 5 Hurricane Rita.
To give time to employees to prepare for Rita and evacuate, Directron.com closed their office and warehouse on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 22-23. Their website, www.directron.com, continued to receive orders during the storm. Directron.com’s sister website, www.axiontech.com, also remained open during this time.
Fortunately, Rita shifted toward East Texas and Directron.com experienced very minor damage from the storm. Directron.com employees cleaned up the debris on Saturday. On Sunday, most orders placed during Rita were processed and ready to ship on Monday, Sept. 26, 2005. The company gave a discount for future orders to those whose orders have been affected by the storm.
All Directron.com employees are counted and a overwhelming majority of them returned to work on Monday. About half of them evacuated. Some went to Austin and some went to Dallas. The trip normally takes about 3-4 hours. It took in average 15 hours during the evacuation due to traffic gridlocks. Alfonso Moreno, Directron.com RMA manager, and his family spent 30 hours to get from Houston to Dallas. They are all pleased that Rita is over and to be back working and serving their customers.

Update, Saturday, Sept. 24
Rita is virtually a no-show in our part of town. The impact is minimum. We'll be open on Monday, September 26 in ful swing. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience our customers experienced during the last two days when our office/warehouse was closed due to Hurricane Rita. We'll catch up with your emails, phone calls, order status, new orders, shipping, CS issues, etc. as quickly as possible.
We expect all of our employees and their families to weather this storm well. We all should be back working on Monday.

Katrina is barely behind us. Here comes Rita!
As Galveston and lower portion of Houston are being evaculated due to Hurricane Rita, we are pleased to say that Directron.com's server is not located in Houston. As a result, Directron.com's website will not be affected by the hurricane at all during this weekend. Therefore, please feel safe to place orders. However, our operations will be affected.
(1) Our office/warehouse shall be closed on Thursday and Friday (Sept. 22 and 23) to give our employees and their family time to prepare for the storm. This will affect the following areas of our service the most: customer services and shipping. We apologize for any inconvenience.
(2) Our office/warehouse shall be closed on Saturday. This is the date when the hurricane is expected to land somewhere on Texas Gulf Coast. We normally close on Sundays.
(3) We assume at this time that our operation including order processing and shipping shall be reopened on Monday, Sept. 26 - if everything goes as planned. We'll keep you posted as we are making progress. All orders placed during this period will be processed and shipped once our operation is presumed.
