See the empty highway? All the cars are parked inside this parking garage!
I shot this one while driving. Digital camera rules!

Just as the cloud continues to move, so did people. I must have seen at least 8 people jargging!

This whole family were out on the street walking around... pondering... where is Rita?
This guy is even driving around in a convertible with the cover open!!! I saw him sticking his hand out to feel the wind.

As I got home, Sunny's best friend Tommy came over. Is this a GBA party or what?
Here is what Tommy's dad told me:
They were relatively new to Texas. This is their first Hurricane (our No. 2). He got every thing prepared but didn't know he needs to refill all the gas. So he does not have enough gas to go anywhere.
Lucky man!
Well, let's see how really lucky we are tomorrow!
BTW, Tommy's dad, David, told me that he did drove around earlier today; the only store that is still open he saw was a liquor store. Go figure!

All these are happening in the past a few hours while Rita is getting ready to pound on Texas/Lousiana

It's almost 8pm now. Rita is supposed to make a landfall at 6am. So we still have about 10 hours to wait.
But according to the last projection, Houston is totally out of the possible landfall spot.
Whew! We have just won a jackpot. We have won our largest bet.
Oops, sorry for those people at Beaumount and Lake Charles...we wish them the best luck tonight.
Wait a second. We are not totally out of the woods yet. I hope tomorrow I don't need to bring you pictures of broken windows, tree limbs, or any other destructions. Plus, I don't know how well we'll be able to sleep tonight. I heard some rain fall earlier onto the window; but inside the house, we don't feel the presence of Rita, yet. Hopefully it stays that way.

Once we noticed that the storm was chasing us, we decided to head back home. We're at home playing online games right now, and just enjoying some quality family time. We've got about a week and a half worth of food, and at least a week worth of water, plus supplies for the baby. We also have a route planned to the only open hospital in Houston just in case some kind of complication relating to my wife's pregnancy should arise.
My cousin is also staying in town. He said that the bar across the street from his house is open, and went over there and had a drink, everyone was watching the weather, playing pool, and having a few beers.
I'm using my digital camera to photodocument the storm, which I'll post shortly after the storm is over. As I'm on the south side of town (about 2 blocks away from the mandatory evacuation zone), I have a good vantagepoint of the approaching storm. I've been using my digital camera to document the storm as much as possible, and once that's full, if we don't have power to upload the pictures into my machine, I'll start using my camera phone to continue the documentation.
As far as weather conditions out here, they've had more rain at the office. We've had 2 15 minute bands of drizzle type rain come through, and a 20 minute band of light rain, just enough to make you want to turn your wipers on if you were driving. Winds have been gusting at best guess in the 40-50mph range, but the sustained winds are still under about 10mph. I'm sure I can look at the actual weather report from Hobby Airport to get more accurate numbers than guesses, but at this point it's really immaterial. Nothing is really being blown around except for the trees swaying a bit in the breeze during gusts. I do expect a lot more rain by morning, however.
We'll see what happens then. God be with you, all of my extended Directron family who are staying in the office to weather the storm. I'm sure your prayers are with us too, and God is hearing all of our prayers, as he's moving Rita away from us, keeping us safe from danger.

I am watching TV, eating water mellon, and writing this post here at 9:40pm. Supposedly, this may be the hour Rita arrives. I just checked outside, the wind is blowing with minimum force. Only a little rain. The TV news says, it's about 20mph wind in Sugar Land area.
What?
Did Rita totally miss us?
It is possible that Sugar Land and most west part of Houston are in the outer boundary of Rita. Rita may be causing some damages somewhere else, but not here. Not at this moment anyway.
Should I feel disappointed? All the work went for nothing?

But, wait, I do have a damage to report.
The license plate came off the van I was driving to transport the tall ladder! Luckily it fell off on the ramp to our warehouse so that I was able to find it and shot a pic of it this afternoon.

Of course, we didn't forget our broken glass door either. We have patched it together with... card boards. Sam did a good job.
Our front door faces the south, so that patch should do just fine. (Wind and rain from Rita are coming from the Northwest). Besides having three dogs and Pete's guns behind that patch should make the patch feel quite safe.
Thank you, Pete!

Welcome back, Jacob. I am glad you and your family are safe and you are now having a little fun playing online games.
Mona: Are you happy that you didn't make Adam to drive your family around yesterday? As they say, sometimes the best thing to do is to do nothing. Hey nice, comfy closet there! But you surely don't have to use it tonight!!!
I am glad that you told me Linda ended up not leaving town either.
And, as always, you can post a question on the Directron Help Desk! (dxy092805)
