Press Release:
Directron.com Reopens after Hurricane Rita Houston, TX - www.directron.com is one of the largest e-commerce companies based in Houston, Texas. With more than 70 employees and 12,000 items, Directron.com operates from a 100,000 sq. ft. warehouse. It sells computer parts, systems, laptops, and peripherals. This past week, Directron.com’s services were interrupted by Category 5 Hurricane Rita.
To give time to employees to prepare for Rita and evacuate, Directron.com closed their office and warehouse on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 22-23. Their website, www.directron.com, continued to receive orders during the storm. Directron.com’s sister website, www.axiontech.com, also remained open during this time.
Fortunately, Rita shifted toward East Texas and Directron.com experienced very minor damage from the storm. Directron.com employees cleaned up the debris on Saturday.
On Sunday, most orders placed during Rita were processed and ready to ship on Monday, Sept. 26, 2005. The company gave a discount for future orders to those whose orders have been affected by the storm.
All Directron.com employees are counted and a overwhelming majority of them returned to work on Monday. About half of them evacuated. Some went to Austin and some went to Dallas. The trip normally takes about 3-4 hours. It took in average 15 hours during the evacuation due to traffic gridlocks. Alfonso Moreno, Directron.com RMA manager, and his family spent 30 hours to get from Houston to Dallas. They are all pleased that Rita is over and to be back working and serving their customers.
Directron.com feels blessed and wishes to thank all of those friends, customers, and vendors around the world who have shown support and concerns during the past four days.

Yes, we are open! This is Paul helping long-time customer John in the front in the morning.
We had about 10 people who didn't make it today to the office. We told everyone that our office would be open today but if they need to take extra time to get back to town, we understood.
The schools won't be open until Wednesday. That is just two extra days off for the kids. AMC-24 theather in Sugar Land opened yesterday. I saw many, many kids there because my kids wanted to go there to join their friends. I guess it's a continued Rita party for them.

Directron.com Rita Evacuation Stories
As you can imagine, today is a day that we shared our Rita stories in the office.
Those who stayed in Houston area during Rita all seem to have about the same story. Those who evacuated had all kinds of different stories. While Rita didn't cause much
physical damage to Houston, it certainly caused a great deal of suffering mentally and psychologically. I compiled these stories here so that we all can learn something from this unique experience. Hopefully it will help our future hurricane plans. Perhaps the city of Houston can learn a thing from this list, too.
