The VT 6420 includes two S-ATA channels for four devices, while the Parallel ATA channel supports two devices.
It's a chip which is 15mm square and uses a ball grid array (BGA package). It will be available in volume in April, the firm said.
An additional two S-ATA channels can be added to a system when this chip is paired with a Silicon Image Sil3012 external PHY chip.
Intel bullies SIS, ALI over Pentium 4 chipsets
Don't you dare show off your boards
By Mike Magee: Friday 07 March 2003, 06:25
A REPORT IN THE Taiwanese press claimed that the Intel Corporation has warned its cherished chipset partners SIS and ALI not to show Pentium 4 products at next week's CeBIT show in Hannover.
But Via, which is not a licensee of Intel P4 technology but instead is waging litigation against Chipzilla, will go ahead and show off its offerings at the show. A festering case of chip war lawsuits exists between Via and Intel.
According to the Economic News, Intel will show off its 800MHz front side bus chipsets at the premier computer show.

SCO Sues IBM For $1B Damages Over Unix Intellectual Property In Linux
By Internetweek.com
http://www.internetweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=7500048
Caldera Systems, which does business as SCO, filed a lawsuit Thursday seeking more than $1 billion damages, charging that IBM misappropriated its Unix software license.
Caldera filed the lawsuit in state court in Utah, charging that IBM has been unlawfully sharing Unix trade secrets with the free software community.
Unix was originally developed by AT&T, and passed through numerous corporate hands since then. Most recently, Caldera purchased the intellectual property rights to Unix from SCO, along with SCO's version of the operating system and the corporate trademark. The company formerly known as SCO is now called Tarantella.
Motherboard: EPIA M10000
Henry Tucker, 07.03.03
http://www.biosmagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=164
VIA Technologies has launched a new mini-ITX motherboard along with the availability of a 1GHz version of the C3 processor. The EPIA M10000 integrates the C3 CPU to provide a small and powerful all-in-one solution. In fact, its Mini-ITX form factor is the world’s smallest native x86 mainboard platform.
As well as its reduced form factor the EPIA M10000 is also a great deal quieter than many existing PC solutions. This is due to its fansink, a combination heat sink and fan, which VIA claims keep the noise down to a minimum. The reason behind this development is that VIA believes consumers need smaller and quieter systems for greater uptake of PCs in living rooms.
According to VIA, the average PC noise measured with the A weighted decibel scale (dBA), ranges between 35dBA and 50dBA and can be equated to the noise made by an old refrigerator. The VIA EPIA M10000 has been independently tested at the University of British Columbia’s anechoic chamber as producing a noise output of 25dBA. The dBA scale is logarithmic, so a difference of 10dBA is approximately twice as loud.
Nvidia finally launches decent low end card
Geforce FX 5200 is the name
By Fuad Abazovic: Sunday 09 March 2003, 18:59
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=8195
JUST $79 TO $100 for DX9 hardware is is surely an attractive price and for that price you will sure buy Geforce FX brand with some lower number than Nvidia uses for its high end card but still good enough to scream over the neighborhood how you actually have a Geforce FX card.
After Geforce 4 MX product that made Nvidia's revenues but at the same time "put back development community for a year" as one of the developers, told us, as many of the regular users upgraded from Geforce 3 and Geforce 3 TIs to Geforce 4 MX.
What a mess, since Geforce 4 MX does not have any shaders inside and they're starting to get popular.

Sun ready to change course on Linux?
By Stephen Shankland CNET News.com. March 7, 2003, 4:36 AM PT
http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104-991412.html
Sun Microsystems is considering striking up partnerships with mainstream Linux sellers such as Red Hat and SuSE--a move that would turn the tech giant into an ally, rather than a rival, of those companies.
The Santa Clara, Calif.-based server seller uses its own version of the open-source operating system in its computers. But Linux development, marketing and support is expensive, and faced with scant support for its version of Linux from third-party software companies, Sun instead is exploring having established Linux sellers provide the software, CNET News.com has learned.
Sun is in talks with SuSE, whose Linux version is the foundation for the products from the UnitedLinux consortium, SuSE spokesman Joe Eckert confirmed. He declined to give details of the talks.
Sun's plans may also include other established distributors. "I know they've been talking with the current people out there, like Red Hat," said Jason Miller, director of information technologies for biotechnology software company Incogen and a member of Sun Linux ISV (independent software vendor) Advisory Board.
