The First Ever PCI Graphics Cards on the GeForce FX 5200
(april 17,2003)
While PCI-Express 16x is just around the corner to replace the conventional AGP, it appears that the good-old PCI that have been here for more than a decade is still alive. Believe it or not, but PNY Technologies recently announced its Verto GeForce FX 5200 graphics card for PCI slot, a definitely exotic solution nowadays.
The graphics card is equipped with a couple of VGA connectors, S-Video TV-Out and 128MB of DDR SDRAM memory. I especially point out that the graphics card advertised on PNY Technologies web-site has 128-bit memory bus and thus should offer quite good performance. Unfortunately, we do not know the memory clocks, but the GPU functions at 250MHz, as I managed to reveal based on the fill-rate specifications.
Along with the good upgrade for an outdated PCI graphics solution for a system without AGP (such as based on i810 or i845GL core-logic), in the nice package you will get a manual and a CD with the GeForce FX drivers, Verto 3D World Desktop software,
NVDVD software and, of course, NVIDIA GeForce FX demos including this Spring is most wanted and most desired Dawn demo, which can be turned into a something more than just a demo quite easily (see this news-story for more information if you are over 21).
I have no idea about performance of such cards, whether it is faster than a RADEON 9000 for PCI or Voodoo5 5500 for PCI, but I can state for sure that PNY Verto GeForce FX 5200 is among the most feature-rich graphics cards for PCI bus. According to the manufacturer, the solution will appear for sale very soon, though, the price is unknown.

ATI and RDI Improve DTV Signal Reception with Smart Antenna Technology
(april 7,2003)
and RDI Inc today announced the exhibition of the new RDI DTV-5000 smart antenna, controlled by ATI¡¯s Nxtenna technology, at 2003 National Association of Broadcasters Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, using the EIA/CEA-909 Antenna Control Interface Standard.
Smart antenna technology enables optimal reception of ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) DTV signals. Classical TV antennas require the consumer to adjust the antenna to receive signals in null signal conditions, when regional transmit antennas are not co-located, or when reflections cause the reception path to vary from channel to channel. Consumers using digital televisions and antennas that comply with CEA Antenna Control Interface Standard (EIA/CEA-909) simplify their off-air DTV experience by eliminating the need to manually adjust the antenna to receive a clear picture. The standard allows DTV receivers to optimize performance by adjusting the antenna gain, polarization, and beam direction.
