Windows XP Professional x64 Edition OEM Operation System Software
Availability: Sorry, this item is sold out. No ETA available at this time.
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is designed to meet the demands of customers who require large amounts of memory and floating point performance in areas such as mechanical design and analysis, 3-D animation, video editing and composition, and scientific and high-performance computing applications.
The performance of 64-bit computing offers advantages in fields such as automobile or airplane design, by allowing engineers to create larger, more complex models. With such systems, engineers can use simulation software to analyze the effects of airflow, stress, and heat on materials of a car or plane, and then study the results to improve product design. Likewise, 64-bit computing is a benefit for digital content creators, including 3-D animators, digital artists, and game developers who can significantly reduce the time spent to digitally render three-dimensional models. In the areas of scientific and high performance computing, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition will aid in oil and gas exploration, seismic analysis, computational fluid dynamics and scientific visualization, among other applications. Windows XP Professional x64 is distributed as a OEM package for system builders.
Today's usage scenarios:
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is designed to address the most demanding business needs of technical workstation users who require large amounts of memory and floating point performance in areas such as mechanical design and analysis, digital content creation, and scientific and high-performance computing applications. Specific business segments that will benefit from Windows XP Professional x64 Edition include the following:
Digital content creation.
New usage scenarios:
Video and photo editing.
Additional performance and scalability:
Large memory support:
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition supports up to 128 gigabytes (GB) of RAM and 16 terabytes of virtual memory, enabling applications to run faster when working with large data sets. Applications can preload substantially more data into virtual memory, allowing rapid access by the x64 processor. This reduces the time for loading data into virtual memory or seeking, reading, and writing to data storage devices, thus making applications run faster and more efficiently.
Address space: 64-bit Windows.
Virtual memory: 16 terabytes.
Paging file: 512 terabytes.
Paged pool: 128 GB.
Nonpaged pool: 128 GB.
System cache: 1 terabyte.
Single desktop for 64-Bit and 32-Bit applications:
Compatibility: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition provides a rich platform on which to integrate both new 64-bit applications and current 32-bit applications using the Windows on Windows 64 (WOW64) x86 emulation layer. The WOW64 subsystem isolates 32-bit applications from 64-bit applications, including preventing file and registry collisions. Both console and graphical user interface applications are supported, as are service applications. The system provides interoperability across the boundary between 32-bit and 64-bit applications for scenarios such as cut and paste and COM. However, 32-bit processes cannot load 64-bit dynamic link libraries (DLLs), and 64-bit processes cannot load 32-bit DLLs.
Increased reliability and security: Built on the Windows Server 2003 SP1 code-base, Windows XP Professional x64 provides increased reliability for business critical desktop computing. Users can now experience the stability and security of a server product on their PC.
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition can be managed using the same tools as 32-bit Windows systems. Customers will find their 32-bit Windows knowledge to be fully transferable to the 64-bit Windows environment. Setup, configuration, and administration are essentially the same.
System Requirements: This operating system requires a 64 bit enabled processor (AMD Opteron, Athlon 64, or Intel with EM64T technology). It also requires 64 bit drivers, 32 bit drivers do not work. Most hardware does not ship with 64 bit drivers, they will have to be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. Please check your hardware manufacturer's site for drivers before purchasing to ensure hardware compatibility, as not all manufacturers currently release 64 bit drivers.
